Marking Mu'l'livaaykkaal, Canadian Tamils observe Genocide Month

Eezham Tamils in Canada, declaring the entire month of May as Genocide Month, have been focusing their efforts at grassroots and towards the diplomatic missions in bringing the Tamil concerns to the global community, according to the organisors of the National Council of Canadian Tamils (NCCT), the democratically elected country council of Eezham Tamils in Canada. Meanwhile, Tamil Youth Organisation (TYO) launched an awareness campaign through social media on Tamil genocide and was conducting signature campaign urging the International Criminal Court to investigate the Sri Lankan state. Democrats of Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam, have focused their efforts by engaging with the foreign missions in Canada and met with the Embassy of Mexico and the Embassy of South Africa.

TGTE-D members Thiru Thiruchelvam, Balan Ratnarajah, Esan Kulasekaran and Suresh Ratnabalan met with the Mexico Embassy officials on Friday in Ottawa and handed out a report to be forward to Mexican Foreign Office.

The head office of the NCCT remains open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. from May 11 to May 20 for those who wish to pay homage to their kith and kin who lost their lives in the war. Blood donation events and cyclists awareness campaign on Tamil genocide and a signature campaign.

The NCCT organised blood drive with Canada Blood Services, which was very successful according to Josie De Leon, Canada Blood Services Clinic Recruitment Coordinator, who said: “The clinic was a great success with an overwhelming response from the members ”.

“Countless Tamils died during the last stages of the war in Sri Lanka because they were denied access to blood. During this month we will grieve their memory by generously giving to our fellow Canadians who are in vital need of blood,” said Raj Subramaniam, the Council’s Blood Drive Coordinator.
