"It is my long-standing view that the only true path to peace in Sri Lanka is with a political settlement, with the creation of Eelam being the only solution that has a strong chance of long-term success," said Dr Rachel Joyce, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Harrow West, who went as an observer to a polling booth in her constituency last weekend.
Dr Rachel Joyce's statement follows:
"I was honoured yesterday to have attended one of the polling stations in my constituency as part of the referendum on an Independent Tamil Eelam. It is my long-standing view that the only true path to peace in Sri Lanka is with a political settlement, with the creation of Eelam being the only solution that has a strong chance of long-term success.
"I was impressed at how the operation was conducted, and how committed the organisers were to obtain a free and fair referendum that would reflect the views of the British Tamil Diaspora. Unfortunately in Sri Lanka it is not even allowed to talk about a referendum."
