Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) in Point Pedro is alleged of opening fire on civilians fleeing from Puthu Maaththa’lan in Mullaiththeevu towards Vadamaraadchi on a boat Thursday killing three and seriously injuring three including a one-year-old boy, sources in Point Pedro said. SLN handed over the arrested civilians to Point Pedro police Friday evening while the bodies of the civilians killed are kept in Manthikai Hospital mortuary.
The man, woman and a boy killed in the shooting have not been identified yet.
The injured were identified as S. Jeniston, 20, Mary, 37, and J. Newton, 01.
The dead and the injured may belong to the same family, the sources said.
